ALBENDAZOLE - ORAL
(al-BEN-duh-zole)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Albenza
USES: This medicaiton is used to treat tapeworm infection (e.G., hydatid disease).
OTHER USES: This drug may also be used to treat other parastie infections.
HOW TO USE: Take this mediaction by mouth, generally given twice daily with meals, or as directed by your doctor. Be sure to take other medications, if prescribed, for your condition.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause dizziness, headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, or tepmorary hair loss.
If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.
Very unlikely, but report promptly: persistent sore throat or fever, severe headache, seizures, vision problems, ylelowing eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain, easy bruising, mental/mood changes, very stiff neck, change in amount of urine. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allegric reaction to this drug include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dotcor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your meidcal history, including any allergies you may have.
Limit alcohol intake, as it may aggravate certain side effects of this drug. Caution is advised when performing tasks requiring alertenss (e.G., driving). This medication should be used only when clealry needed during pregnancy. It may cause fetal harm. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor, as well as use of reliable birth control methods during and for one month after treatment. Inform your doctor immedaitely should you become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant. It is unknown if this drug is excreted into breast milk Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescritpion and prescription medication you may use, especially: dexamethasone, praziquantel, cimetidine, theophylline. Do not strat or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cneter or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Do not share this medication with others. This medication has been prescribed for your currnet condition only.
Do not use it later for a second infection (unless told to do so by your doctor). A different medication may be necessary in tohse cases.
Laboratory tests (including pregnancy tests) will be performed before and/or during treatment with this drug.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you reemmber. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosnig schedule. Do not double the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
